The Reverend porsha williams gates is a public theologian, healer, digital content creator, consultant, writer, and preacher. Her work centers on social justice and wholeness with an Afrocentric hermeneutic using various technologies, from preaching, tarot, reiki, and digital content creation. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Ministry Degree at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. She is a graduate of Spelman College and Yale Divinity School. She is the Founder and CEO of Porshanality Media, LLC. On January 2, 2022, Pastor porsha will assume the role of Assitant Pastor at the St. Paul Community Baptist Church of Brooklyn, NY.

 

Hailing from Bridgeport, CT, Rev. porsha self-identifies as an Afro-Christian futurist and womanist in living and praxis. She is both licensed (2012) and ordained (2015) into the Progressive Baptist Church by her Pastor, Rev. Dr. Anthony L. Bennett (Mount Aery Baptist Church).

Before her professional career in ministry, Rev. porsha graduated from Spelman College in 2012 with a BA and Graduated from Yale Divinity School with a Master of Divinity in 2015. She is the 2015 recipient of the Henry Hallam Tweedy Prize for exceptional promise in ministry from Yale Divinity School. While in divinity school, Rev. porsha served as a Marquand Chapel Minister for YDS and a pastoral intern at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

 

From 2015-2017, Rev. porsha served as the FTE Transition into Ministry Pastoral Resident at the Mount Aery Baptist Church of Bridgeport, CT. Rev. Porsha has also served as the Pastor to Youth and Children and the Pastor of the Example Youth Ministry of the Bethany Baptist Church of Newark, NJ, until March of 2020.

In addition to her Afro-Christian roots, Rev. porsha's spiritual formation is also accredited to her studies as a member of the Lightworker Incubator Spring 21 Cohort led by Jynnette Lewis of Inner Sun Alchemy. Her Level II Reiki practitioner training has come through Reiki Master Shayla Edmonds (Founder of the OMG Wellness Bar and The Overflo [founder Timil Jones]).

 

In addition to congregational ministry, Rev. porsha has done extensive work in curating digital sacred space. She is the founder of Porshanality Media, the host of Porshanality Podcast, the Co-Host of Just2Pearls Podcast, and the Co-host of God’s Got Jokes Tv on YouTube. She is also a contributing writer for Urban Ministries Incorporated. She has also written for NO COMPROMISE Magazine, the Millennial Womanism Project, Fidelia Magazine of Young Clergy Women International, and WomanPreach!, Inc. She has also been featured in The Root, Altar Guild Podcast, The Double Love Experience Podcast, and has appeared on Preaching and Preachers, Afros & Audio Live. Not to mention, Rev. porsha is a podcast consultant for Hearst Media, Inc., and has worked across brands, including Oprah Daily.

 

Rev. porsha is a 2020 graduate of the founding class of the RISE Together National Mentorship Network for Women of Color in Ministry, in partnership with Union Theological Seminary. She is an inaugural member of the Prophetic Preaching Cohort of Auburn Seminary, founded by Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III. In January of 2019, Rev. porsha was inducted into the Academy of Preachers at the National Festival of Young Preachers. Rev. porsha is active with the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice and several Newark Charter schools in youth incarceration and reproductive justice. She is also a board member for the Circle or Scared Fire, Kairos Circle, a preaching intensive for women of color in ministry.

 

Rev. porsha is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Also, she enjoys reading books, watching movies, traveling, and spending time with her wonderful husband, Mr. Jamal Richardson Gates.
